Angel

Angel:
Your love took a battle to win. A war.
You’ve made us shells, now you listen with hindsight.
Your love is my shield in this war. My cure.

You’re all ears. I tell of arduous fights.
You gasp when I tell you of Anderson.
How the terrors of war made him break.
How his unblinking eyes face the sun.

Your eyes glisten with tears, forming a lake.
Like that of the trench. The river of blood.
You care for my wounds whilst I am on leave.
My body. Fresh to gain more in the mud.

The horrors of this war, you wouldn’t believe.
You’ve been here, angel, since this war began.

You have made me into a better man.
